A forbidden romance.
A deadly plague.
Earth's fate hinges on one girl...

Cinder, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness.
But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen - and a dangerous temptation.

Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth's future.

This is not the fairy tale you remember.
But it's one you won't forget.

WHAT I THINK

"I don't actually remember anything from before the surgery."
His eyebrows rose, his blue eyes sucking all the light of the room. "The cybernetic operation?"
"No, the sex change."
The doctor's smile faltered.
"I'm joking."

Cinder has been sitting for quite a while now. Actually I think since last Christmas. For some reason I just never picked it up. So this readathon was a great time to make me read it! And lucky me it was voted to be the first one. What start for this!

This is a re-telling of Cinderella and one really good! Cinder is an orphan who was adopted by Linh Garan when she was little. She doesn't remember anything about her childhood and she has no idea why Garan went through all the trouble to get her.
Now she lives with her stepmother Adri and stepsisters Pearl and Peony. Adri and Pearl doesn't like her one bit but Peony is different, she loves Cinder and Cinder loves her. But unfortunately Peony gets sick by letumosis and is sent to the quarantine.
Cinder starts working with the palace research team to find a cure and at the same time she's trying to fix the Prince's android. What does the android know that's so important to the Prince?

I really liked this book but I didn't love it and for that I'll give it 4 stars. It is an amazing re-telling with it's twists and turns which some of you can't predict in advance but some of them you can start guessing at some point when given new information about everything.
Nothing is given away from the start and every peace of information comes in little bits and pieces. And I'm not saying that this was boring, not at all, since it wasn't boring. Still I was craving for something little more from it. It did feel like it was kind of going in circles with everything happening. Like nothing new happened, just the same routine every day, never mind meeting the Prince and all. Until the end of the book of course.
There is some action happening and there definitely is an annoying cliffhanger where the book ends! Like how could you do that to a person who doesn't have Scarlett yet?

There is one thing I don't understand though. All the Cinder + Kai shipping and hype. Where is all that coming from? Yes there were some scenes between them but I wouldn't call that a romance. At least I didn't see any romance between them but I might be too unromantic for that.
